So that whole bit about building an Islamic Community Center two blocks from the World Trade Center site is still a hot-button issue—if you didn’t notice! With the 9/11 anniversary over the past weekend, both protesters and mourners gathered round to exchange words, posters and general merriment. My friend Jim drew my attention to a unique project called Concerned New Yorkers, which offered WTC site gatherers a chance to reflect on the proposed “Mosque” like an elementary school social studies project. Here you can see police admiring the worksheets and a full list of responses can be seen on Flickr or on the Concerned New Yorkers’ website. The worksheet simply reads, “The Ground Zero Mosque Should Not Be Built Because” and “The Islamic Community Center Should Be Built Because.”
